Anderson/Oconee Area
The Anderson area office opened in 2000 and continues to enlist the support and enthusiasm of community leaders and families. This year, the Anderson office moved to 1104 Ella Street in Anderson formerly Easter Seals to a five-room house as a base to better provide connections for more families in Anderson and Oconee County. Area support groups meet monthly and include Children-R-Special, Autism Support Group, Preemie Connection and A Precious Few. Family social activities included Breakfast with the Easter Bunny at Applebee’s, Children with Special Needs Fishing Rodeo and Asthma Lunch - N - Learn, Annual Holiday Socials in Anderson held at Fusion Warehouse, Oconee Holiday Social held at College Street Baptist Church. Disabilities Awareness Walk in May was held at The Anderson Memorial Park with The Anderson Joe’s baseball team and the Buddy Walk for Down syndrome in October was held at The Anderson University with more than 170 Students volunteering. Buddy Walk and Disabilities Awareness walk activities in collaboration with Special Olympics. Annual fundraising and community awareness events also continue to be popular with the “Amazing Ride for Amazing Children” in June and Big Thursday Benefit and Silent Auction in November at Rockhoppers in Clemson with Special Guest Speakers Tony Eubanks Clemson University Team Chaplain, and Dr. Tim Duniho, The Anderson area council boasts 11 members. This year, Anderson County and surrounding areas received 369 referrals.
