Advocacy Issues
Join us for the 12th Annual
Disability Advocacy Day
March 3, 2010
9am-3pm
State House, starting in the Blatt Building
You can help the Governor and members of the SC General Assembly understand the unique needs of citizens with severe, lifelong disabilities in South Carolina. Our goal in 2010 is to have no more cuts in funding for individuals with disabilities.
Let your voice be heard by attending Disability Advocacy Day
What you need to do now:
1. Call, write or visit your state Representative and Senator in your district and inform them that you will be attending Disability Advocacy Day on March 3, 2010.
2. Make an appointment for a short visit with your legislators to discuss the top priorities listed here.
a. If at all possible, in their office at some time during Disability Advocacy Day
b. Or in your home town, during the months of February or March
If you do not know your legislators' names, go to www.scstatehouse.net.
Tell your personal story
Write your personal story to leave with your state Representative and Senator.
Your personal story is important and needs to be told to your legislators. They want to hear from you and will listen, because you are their constituent.
Personal stories put a real face and voice on how important services are to you and your family member.
You also can include a photo of the person who needs or receives services. Please keep stories short and to the point.
This information is provided by the SC Partnership of Disability Organizations.
