DESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOP: Students with disabilities often experience challenges or barriers that interfere with their ability to access and demonstrate learning. Accommodations can be used for students with disabilities to help provide equal access to instruction and assessments. This training will provide a general overview of the key concepts of accommodations and how accommodations should be implemented. Participants will:
- gain skills in the use of accommodations within the IEP process to enable the student to access the general curriculum
- identify the different types of accommodations for instruction and testing
- understand the selection and use of data-based individualization to select and measure the effectiveness of accommodations for individual students
- receive resources with information on selection, implementation, and evaluation of accommodations for IEP development
Trainer Bio:
Ms. Susan Kreh Beck is a nationally certified school psychologist, SC Department of Education certified school psychologist II and Licensed Psycho-Educational Specialist. Since entering the field of special education in 1998, Ms. Beck has worked in Richland School District Two, at the SC Department of Education and for the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs serving across the years in collaborative roles with people with disabilities, their families, state agencies, stakeholders, professional associations and advocacy groups to strengthen the system of service delivery for not only students, but South Carolinians from birth to end of life with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities.
As a member of the Superintendent of Education’s Advisory Council for the Education of Students with Disabilities since 2016, Ms. Susan Kreh Beck has represented the SC Association of School Psychologists and the SC Council of Administrators of Special Education serving as vice Chair and Co-Chair of the Safe School/Social-Emotional Committee. She also served two terms as the National Association of School Psychologists state delegate to South Carolina and two terms as the South Carolina Association of School Psychologist President as well as the Legislative Committee Chair representing the school psychologists in public and private practice.
Most recently, in order to spend more time with her growing family, Ms. Beck entered the private sector as a school psychologist for Little Johnny, LLC, a school psychology services contractor for public school districts which addresses the state shortage of school psychologists. She serves Lexington School District One and Aiken County Public School District. In order to further support families of children with disabilities, she regularly delivers training in special education-related topics for the Family Connection and serves on the Unumb Neurodevelopmental Center’s Board of Directors. In addition to her professional career, Ms. Beck has three children who attend Richland School District Two schools.
