Buddy Walk 2021!

Family Connection of South Carolina is honored to host our 2021 Buddy Walk October as part of our Down syndrome awareness month activities this October! This year’s celebration will be a multi-day virtual event starting on Sunday, October 24th at 2:00 p.m. on our Facebook page.  Start fundraising online now and join us on October 24th!

When you start and lead a Buddy Walk team you are helping families who have a child with Down syndrome connect with resources they need to help their children thrive! You are also helping all families served by Family Connection of South Carolina. Since 1990, Family Connection has served more than 100,000 families by providing peer-to-peer support, assistance with navigating the complex health care system, and guidance with school meetings and special education plans.

When you join Buddy Walk, you are:

  • Helping promote inclusion, equity, and community–part of Family Connection’s core values
  • Bringing together co-workers, friends, and families to support these values
  • Taking action for families – by joining Buddy Walk you become an advocate for the Down syndrome community

Getting Started

Decide on a team fundraising goal.

Visit the Buddy Walk Main Page here (scan with your phone’s camera):

Click the Register Now button and then choose “Start a Team”. Register yourself first. Then you will be able to add others to your team.

Register other team members or share the link to your team’s page with others who may want to join.

Recruit 5-10 team members to help you reach your team goal.

Encourage team members to make a list of people they can ask for support. Include friends, family, and businesses they support on a regular basis—think of doctors, dentists, salons, insurance agents, service providers and more! 

Share the link to your personal or team page on your social media channels to increase your impact and raise awareness!

Consider a “Star” cut out campaign. Approach local retail outlets, restaurants, gas stations or other businesses asking if they will sell Buddy Walk Stars to their customers. Customers can purchase stars for $1 or $5 and put their name on it. The participating business creates a display area to highlight their commitment to Buddy Walk!
