Nine-year-old Ashanti, who has Down syndrome, just completed third grade at Brennan Elementary School in Columbia. A super child who is blossoming, Ashanti is currently training for her second year for the Special Olympics. Last year, she won five gold medals in her age category. She also enjoys books, skating, bike riding and gymnastics. She will showcase two dance routines and her own talent in an upcoming Sweetheart Pageant. While her mother says Ashanti inspires her every day, she says her daughter also aspires to learn to cook and wants a computer to help with school work.
