Kate is extremely thoughtful and kind. She has a great sense of humor and is a friend to everyone. Quirky and artistic, she enjoys making floral arrangements and exploring landscaping and flowers. She also likes drawing and playing with her siblings.

When Kate was a baby, she had frequent ear infections and dietary restrictions. She also endured a methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection in her ears several times. When she reached kindergarten, Kate had trouble with producing sounds and reading. An evaluation report indicated she had trouble hearing certain sounds. This hearing loss affected her speech. After she received an FM system and started using the device in school, she could finally hear her teacher’s instructions. Her parents are proud of how brave she was during the many doctor’s appointments for her ears and how persistent she was in learning how to read.

Kate puts others before herself. This spring, her school set a reading challenge to receive a free ticket to a Fireflies game. Kate’s father is a Fireflies fan. She was determined to read every night, so she could win a ticket to give to her dad for his birthday. She achieved her goal and dad loved his special gift!

Kate attended last year’s LOOK! Exhibit with her family. She immediately wanted to join the event this year and share her unique story.
